5 Reasons To Back The Epicureans on Kickstarter

November 03, 2020 in Books, Recommended Articles
  1. Secure a First-Edition copy

Because we have some flexibility as a smaller publisher selling directly to our customers, the first edition of The Epicureans will be a smaller run than most new novels by major houses. Think of it as the literary version of a cask-strength bourbon, produced in small batches. If you enjoy collecting fine books, you don’t want to miss out on owning a First Edition of this gorgeous hardcover.

2. Uniquely captivating thriller by a Pulitzer nominee

Author Chantal James (None But The Righteous) perfectly captures the psychological effect of The Epicureans, claiming that Charles McNair’s new novel “weaves its way deeply into the reader in an unbroken spell." This novel is alternately grim, macabre, tender, raw, heartwarming, farcical and hopeful. Though the first chapter opens with a shocking act of ritual violence, the book’s larger narrative reveals the struggle of a fractured working-class family struggling to heal from a variety of life’s insults. If you’ve ever wished a Tom Waits song could be adapted into a full-length novel, The Epicureans has that feel in abundance.

3. Sumptuous print design

Though we are a new publishing house, Tune & Fairweather’s team boasts decades of combined experience in print media, editorial design and book production. Our debut project, You Died, was shortlisted by the IDI Awards 2020 in the “Printed Book Design” category. The Epicureans represents a bold step forward creatively, drawing influence from medieval religious art, Willow ceramic plate ware and even a touch of avant-garde graphic design in the internal photo illustrations. The blue-and-white motif running throughout the work will make The Epicureans one of the most sublime volumes to grace your bookshelf.

4. Go behind the scenes of book production

One of the joys of bringing books to market through Kickstarter is that we have a direct line to our backers to communicate progress on the final product. In return for backing The Epicureans you are not just ordering a product; you also get a front-row seat to observe the journey of this stunning book gradually coming to life. With the You Died campaign we sent out backer updates every step of the way and intend to do the same thing for this second project. If you’re curious about how hardcover books come together, we hope you’ll relish this process as much as we do.

5. Support an independent Irish publisher

I left my job in video-game marketing during the pandemic to devote my efforts full-time to producing books that feel like collectible treasures. Life is short and there’s never a perfect time to pursue a lifelong dream. By purchasing The Epicureans, you are helping make viable this labour of love. No matter how virtual some aspects of our life become, T&F hopes to prove that there will always be a place for expertly crafted print products that add beauty and inspiration to your home and never go out of style. We hope to make this work sustainable so we can do it for many years to come.

There are ONLY 12 DAYS LEFT in the campaign and, to be candid, we have a steep hill to climb if we’re going to hit our funding goal. Help us get there and we’ll deliver into your book collection a literary feast that you will savour for years to come.
